OCZ for the past 2 years have been sending out WAY too many bad sticks. You may just be lucky.

I agree that OCZ is fast, affordable and stable RAM...when it works.

OCZ has the highest percentage of dead sticks when compared to other leading companies such as Kingston, Gskill, Adata...

FROM OVERCLOCKERS.UK:

"When I had previously had 4x1gb 800mhz sticks it had picked it up as 4gb ok. I then switched to 2x2gb 1066mhz and it said only 3.25 usable. I found that the problem had been that while I'd been using my old ram I'd gone into msconfig and gone to the boot tab and clicked advanced. In there I'd set the maximum available memory to 4096. This had worked fine with the old ram but with the new max available memory was showing as 0. To correct the problem I went back the general tab on msconfig and selected Normal startup and rebooted. When the system came back on all 4gb was usable again."

I will give this a shot when I get home...I'm always dicking around with msconfig to get faster startup

It all depends on what modules you are buying, there are a few OCZ DDR3 modules that have a very low failure rate %, but then you have the modules that are just not worth the risk...

If you are in need of DDR3 and you want the best of the best then make sure you choose between G.Skill, Corsair or Mushkin ..... These have the least % of bad sticks IMO... Plus the service is second to none...

If you have 4Gb of ram using XP it will show 3.25Gb due to the OS not being able to allocate all 4GB.

Win 7 64bit should see all 4GB....

Win7 32 bit will tell you "You have 4 gig, but only 3.25 are useable" where as the 64 bit will actually make use of it.

Quick question guys. If you manage to unlock your 550be, get it stable, get it at a happy temp., is there anything wrong with leaving it that way or could that damage the chip?

You are always running the risk of a meltdown with anything over the factory ratings. But, hey live alittle I always say! Its no funn if you dont ALMOST break it!

I just figured, if you unlock the cores and run it at the same mhz and volts as the 920/920, assuming it's stable... you wouldn't have anything to worry about really?

Well, I just wanted to say thanks to Videl, xtc, Jim and especially OvrClkr for their posts and PM's because...... my 550be is a happy and stable unlocker! Wooo!

The machine has absolutely no qualms about unlocking the extra 2 cores. I haven't tried to OC it yet due to time constraints with the holidays but I'm pretty sure it won't due too badly there.

Sorry no 3dmark screen shots, I'm having some issues with the RAM, but all else is great.

Hope all your guys' holiday went well.

Still waiting for my Biostar TA790gx 128m to arrive from RMA. (Bought openbox from newegg, fried 2 processors. Last time I buy open box motherboards from newegg)

At the moment I have my AMD Phenom 550 x2 running at 3.8 ghz@1.45v (Using Core-Contact Freezer 120mm version@full fan speed... I have some image s4 ear buds I keep on when on my computer so I can't hear my computer's fans)
Max temps: 42c after 4 hours of prime95. Idles at 30c or lower (AMD cool/quiet disabled).
Voltage is rather high in my opinion. I could not over clock to 4 ghz no matter what I tried, even went to 1.5v I think it may be a motherboard limitation not so much a cpu one as 1.45v is already past the 95w TDP Biostar A785GE limitation. (I think it's like around 108w-114w TDP at the moment.

Update :

Finally finished the Crosshair Build .... Some pics and temps as an x4 B50 [:lectrocrew:6]

Idle : 30/31c at 3.8Ghz as a quad.......

LOAD temp :

I have also unlocked the cores on this (another lucky customer 😛). It was working just fine, had it overclocked to about 3.6 Ghz with the Scythe katana 3000 or something like that, just a little cheap after market cooler. It was great until a couple of days ago, the temps went up a little. The idle temp used to be around 30-34 C. Now it is around 40C. I have no idea why. Just playing little games here and there the temps increase to just under 50C, and I start to notice a little lag. I still have 5 fans in the CM 690 and decent cable management, the same as since I first built it. Any idea for the sudden increase in temperature? Thanks.

Try re-pasting and re-seating the cooler, make sure you use the correct amount of paste.....

Wow ovcclkr, Nice build my friend!

Is that the titan special edition i see?

Yep!! So far so good.. still need some tweaking as far as voltages go. The dam Crosshair has tons of overclocking settings and voltages.. Very different from my Asrock board....

Going to tidy up the cable management a bit more and re-paste the cpu when I get home today...

The board is pretty stable at high clocks, the only issue I am having is the dam sound card is crackling during games and/or listening to music....

Well thats is sumptin else naw aint it!! I sold my crosshair the other day I dont know what Im going to do next.............. Prolly ditch some money in the desk ..... flip up 47" screen ..... desktop to screen with the push of a button.

OvrClkr,
That's an amazing computer you have there...Looks really Tight! 😀
If the case doesn't have a plexiglas window, you need to have the side open all the time! Lol
That's right, I almost forgot you unlocked your 550....
I just have to say that I think it's one of the best CPUs ever made...I spent only $100 on it and
unlocked the cores...It works great and stable @3.8...but I normally keep it @3.6...I think I might even get it stable @3.9....It amazes me almost every time I think about it...
I think my computer doesn't look as good but I will post some pics up for you to see...

A B50 Club would be cool but it would exclude some really nice and smart people...It would be better to have a overclocking club with a B50 section of the club!
BTW I'm working on redoing our ovaclockers.com site right now...I still need to get Lashtons approval...
but I want to make it a big and popular site this year...that's my goal this year...

If you look at the second pic from top to bottom you will see where I took the pic with the side window on. I had to switch my plexi from this :

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/3898/win-06/DIY_Window_Kit_-_Square_w_120mm_Blow_Hole_12_x_12.html?tl=g42c355s913

to this :

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/3895/win-01/DIY_Window_Kit_-_Square_12_x_12.html?tl=g42c355s913

because it would not close with the side fan. Since I already had the window w/o the fan I decided to swap it and give it a cleaner look.

4.2Ghz is the most I can get out of this B50 but it aint that stable...4Ghz is fully stable though...

Yea we need to revamp the website ASAP [:jaydeejohn:5]

Here is a pic at 4Ghz :
