Processor Schematics Leaked...

Hey there

Have been searching on various peer to peer, etc etc, for any schematics on how processors are constructed, but I haven't been able to find zip! Seems that, no matter whose designs or architecture it actually is, the secret to processors is locked up tighter than a virgins chastity belt!(pardon the expression, but feel that it's suitable regarding said topic!)

Would've thought that someone somewhere by now would've at least leaked something regarding it.....someone always leaks information, at some point, expect apparently pertaining to actual processor construction!

@ OP: If the schematics of a processor where leaked that would <Mod Edit> the company who designed the processor. Its not an album where the guys lose a couple thousand over the years from pirating, if the schematics for something like the C2D where leaked Intel would probably lose billlions. Anybody who would have access to files like that must be a trusted employee, somebody who wouldnt put the it up on a torrent site. They would most likely sell it to another company. Since if word got out the company who designed the processor they could sue the guy who stole the design, and the company who agreed to buy it, for millions of dollars.

Checked those links out, browsed around a tad, but it appears to be coding projects for the processor itself. I'm trying to start at ground level with the actual physical construction of the chip itself, before moving into the programming stage.

If you have any ideas on where I can browse, and get diagrams or some such, I would appreciate it. Not too bright am I, so need pictures etc to help explain the setup.

Hey there

I realise the financial implications, as well as any legal ramifications for those involved in industrial espionage, but another fact I'm relying on is human nature -greed, stupidity, revenge. Three most likely candidates for why an employee would do something like that.

Besides, I'm guessing that they have multiple safe guards built into their production routine concerning their employees anyways, so not expecting any real info out any time soon! 😉

We have die shots, general process/manufacturing descriptions, and block diagrams of each processor architecture. Apart from that, how easy is it to store and display 50 million+ logic transistors with 5-8 layers of copper interconnection? The software to tap into such databases is confined to the engineering labs, and the two major CPU vendors apparently customize their software tools for their manufacturing technology and end up with incompatible formats. Thus it would not be a trivial task for Intel to manufacture AMD chips or vice versa, even with free access to each others' diagrams.

Its hardly a secret.

Semiconductor processing is a well-established industry. Take a look at Applied Materials - they make the equipment that makes the chips. Look at their products (www.amat.com). Check your local colleges to see if they have degrees in Semiconductor Manufacturing. Take a course. While the details of the latest processor may be a company secret, the overall process is not. In the 386 and 486 days, (before pentium) the architecture was open. Anybody that could afford the 20 million dollar fab and the 4 million dollar equipment could build their own chips. Remember Cyrix?

If you actual masks, Intel has some for the 4004

So far as more recent masks, you are probably out of luck. Most are proprietary top secret etc.....

iirc the mask films used are quite large, because you are using light and shining it through the mask and then through a lens to shrink it down to shine onto the silicon and etch the surface of whatever is on it. IBM is switching to some liquid immersion lithography, I don't know how that works though. Not a fab tech. Maybe the masks are the same size as the ic. Anybody know?

better yet is to make a shematics of your own cpu i found a way to make a 2 bit cpu and am slowl catch up to intel
