I use a pair of M-Audio BX5as in conjunction with my macbook's onboard audio interface.

Realtek High Def audio (supports 7.1)
using audio coaxial cable
to Sony (HTIB)Reciever STR-K790 (5.1DD)

need to upgrade my sound card, plan to purchase Creative Fataliy Pro with Optical out and DD Live and DTS Live supported.

I've got a 7.1 surround sound system, using paradigm signature series speakers all around, running through a reciever hooked up to the optical off my x-fi extreme. over the top is somewhat the theme of my computer room as i have a samsung a650 46" hdtv for my monitor.

Those don't look bad, though I'd question your statement about nothing beating them sonically for the price. For that price, you can get the nice M-audio Studiophile BX8a deluxe, or if you have the room, you can get a 5 channel set of SVS SBS-01 speakers (which admittedly would need an amp, so would end up a couple hundred more expensive, but it is a true 5 channel surround with good quality).

Audigy 2ZS
Yamaha DSPA-2
Kef Kube 2 Sub
Mission 775 (Fronts)
Mordant Short Mezzo 5 (Center)Replaced my much missed Denon
Wharfedale Valdus 500 (Rear)
Logitech USB Gaming Headset for night and quiet use
Marantz CD-17 KI Signature (For playing CD's)
QED Speaker Cables and Interconnects
I use this for all my PC movies, games and music.

I'm very short on finances so I use a Line6 TonePort for a soundcard and Z2300's for the actual sound. It's the best setup I could get for under $200 😀 However I have some tubes left over from my guitar amp so I'm thinking of upgrading DIY style 😀

x-fi & yamaha surround amp & b&w dm601 & velodyne spl-8. I've tried "computer speakers". I've tried all high end: Altec's, Klipsch, Logitech (they're all crap); I could only settle on the small ht system.

I have the same setup. No complaints at all, the speakers are awesome.

I've got an old Soundblaster card hooked up to a 2.1 "flat-panel" set of Monsoon speakers. Obviously, I'm not a serious gamer. For music, I run through Dolby Headphone processing into Sennheiser 497 headphones - remarkably good.

jtt283 mentioned being deaf in one ear. My daughter is deaf in both. So let me tell you her setup. She plugs one end of a $150 stereo-to-mono cable into the PC, and the other into a jack on the processor ($6,000) for her cochlear implant ($52,000). It's a little spooky, sometimes, seeing her plugged directly into Itunes, signals straight to the brain with no sound waves involved.

Anybody else running a $58,000 sound system? At 1.0?
