Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music with Logitech Z-560 4.1 THX Speakers. 10" Sub and amazing sound. 8 years old and sound as good as the day I bought them! Loud as hell. Have never turned them up all the way!

I use a Denon tube amp and some B&W speakers for my main computer...
However for the spare/extra pc's i have a cambridge soundworks 4.1 set and an Altec Lansing 2.1 set.

I don't believe in surround sound if "we" where able to hear quadrophonic we would have 4 ears in stead of 2.
With a good audio set you don't need more than 2 speakers to create the same illusion of surround sound though a sub woover is welcome specially for games and movies.

While posting this it came to mind that most people who responded here have really nice audio sets though only a few that go as far as to use high end amp's and speakers ... of those few most used a Denon amp (some like me even a tube amp).

Gotta love Denon 😀

Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 surround speakers (only have it hooked up for 5.1 though). They have been a great set of speakers that have survived several sound cards. My current sound card is a Creative X-Fi gamer. Will probably continue to use these speakers for a long time but will not use Creative for my next PC build (unless I go with an AuzenTech one). I am fed up with their useless drivers and overpriced sound cards. Will most likely go with an HT OMEGA card with a C-Media chipset on it. Then again, onboard sound is getting better all the time. May just stick with that. OK, so I ranted a bit there and got a little off topic. Bottom line... I love my speakers and will continue to use them until I replace my home theater speakers. Then I will replace these with my old home theater speakers. Or I may replace them with these (http://www.psykoaudio.com/) if they are any good once they've launched. A bit $$ but may be worth it.

Logitech Z-5500 are the best speakers i have ever owned and fit the bill perfectly. they're hooked up to my pc, my 360 and the dvd player. you cant ask for better speakers!

Interestingly enough. I have an old version of the Klipsch Speaker system pictured in the article. I have the THX version of that system and only real difference between the two is the speaker legs on the new system look better. It is a great sounding system. I haven't heard a better off-the-shelf system for a small room. Listening to Eva Cassidy - Falling leaves in dolby surround blew me away when I first hooked it up.

L-O-L @ Computer speakers.

I use the following:
- Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeMusic (SPDIF Out 24bit/96Khz)
- Yamaha RX-V361 HT Receiver (plus a quiet fan mod)
- A pair of PolkAudio RTi-8 tower speakers
- *To be replaced ASAP* Athena AS-P4100 Subwoofer.

My headset cable (Sennheiser HD-477) just frayed, and i can't find a replacement.

[citation][nom]N19h7M4r3[/nom]i have a nice set of Creative 750 Gigaworks 7.1, but the bass is to concentrated on the subwoofer... i've started to dislike X.1 setups because of that, even the good logitech 5.1's are almost the same... in the future i'm thinking of just buying a professional sound card and attach +4 good studio speakers, since i dont even have good conditions to set all the speakers for the surround effect...[/citation]

The thing about that is that for all computer x.1 setups that I have seen, the crossover is set around 120-150Hz. This is the reason for that sound that you are talking about, and it is done because it allows for tiny satellites to be used. To eliminate it, you don't need a setup without a sub, you just need a setup with a lower crossover. If you get a pair of decent mains (bookshelf size or so) that can get down to at least 80Hz cleanly, and then the sub takes over only below that, you'll be fine. My setup crosses over at 60Hz, and sounds great. You can't hear the location of the sub at all.

Denon is pretty amazing. My Denon isn't a tube model (AVR-2808), but I love it anyways. Excellent products.
