Safe temp? It's not high . . . It's low???

My FX-8120 is running on idle at 3.8GHz with the Hyper 212 plus @ 9-15C . . . Is that safe? My room is around 76F so 24C . . . My Gaming PC is cooling my room??? How is this possible, and is it safe? Should I just be happy I have room to OC more? I realize now that 3.8GHz is a relativity weak OC or moderate OC. What should I do I guess is the question . . .

Specs:
CPU: FX-8120 @ 3.8GHz
Cooler: Hyper 212 Plus W/Push-Pull blowing up and out past two more 120mm's @ 50+/- CFM's
MoBo: MSi 990XA-GD55
Graphics: ASUS Radeon HD7850's x 2 in Crossfire.
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Black 1600 4GBx2DIMM's
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM (Cav Black)
Case: CM HAF 912
PSU: 750W Antec Greewatts 80 Plus
Fans: Total of 6 case fans. All are Enermax 120mm Batwing Blue LED's @ 50+/- CFM's. And the four stock GPU fans on the two ASUS Rad HD7850's. And The two 120mm stock cooler master fans on the cooler rated @ 50+/- CFM's

How are you measuring the temps? That is likely an error.

If not using hwmonitor, get it and see what it reads.

I wouldn't trust your temperature readout, it's definitely higher than is being reported. Try hwmonitor as COLGeek said, and make sure you're reading the correct temperature value.
If you are reading the right one, it's going to make overclocking kinda difficult, since you've got no idea what the real temperature is.

I'm using both HW and Core temp. I'm reading core #0-7 on HW and just the standard readout on Core temp. I'm at stock volts (auto) and 3.8GHz.

Use only one app at a time to measure temps. Could be a conflict or you could have a defective temp sensor.

What does your BIOS report for temps?

Bios was showing 40C ish? But it only gave me one temp. And I just ran a stress test @ 4.2GHz on stock auto volts and it ran for a little over 28min than got BSOD and FATALERROR from P95?

Ohk, HWM says 20C @ idle with auto volts @ 4.2GHz. BIOS says 40-45C for CPU at idle and less for the MoBo @ around 37C +/- . . .

I don't know what it is, or why, but a lot of monitoring programs have issues with reporting the correct core temps on most of the newer AMD platforms (from PII and Athlon II on).

The best advice I've seen is to add 15C or so to what is reported to get close to the real temp.

The socket temp is usually the most accurate in that situation (one of the TMPIN's in HWMonitor; probably TMPIN0 or TMPIN1), but it's also usually higher than the core temps.

Yeah, it weird cause I have it at 4GHz now and stock volts. If I'm just bumping the CPU to 200 x "auto" and change auto to "20" to get 4GHz I shouldn't mess with anything else right? Or should I always disable OC Genie and all the other stuff? If so, what should I be disabling? And do I have to manually change the RAM setting for overclocking the CPU, or can I leave the RAM auto also? Thanks.

I'm not well versed on AMD overclocking, so I'm not really the best person to ask, but it looks like you've done alright so far.

Kk, thanks, if anything the worst I'll have to do is knock it down to 3.8GHz which won't kill me, lol. All my scores in WEI are 7.9 so far except my HDD which is impossible to get to 7.9 so I've heard . . . Unless you get like 4 HDD's and RAID them or something silly like that. Might as well wait to get a SSD, lol.

Bump. Why is my BIOS showing that my temp for CPU is 45-47C and my socket is +/- 37C??? Does the BIOS really use that much processing to cause it to be 10-15C above idle? I can take a screen cap if anyone wants it . . .

Victim of common disease called stupidity . . . The thermal compound wasn't put on right . . . There wasn't enough. So, I took the old stuff off and cleaned everything down now I'm idle at 32-35C and gaming MW3 and BF3 at 46-49C on all ultra settings on my HDTV @ res 1080p. So, looks like I have a little more room to OC, but I think I'll play it safe and keep it at the 4.0GHz I'm pulling now. Thanks again everyone that helped!
