Specs:

CPU: i5 4440
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB
RAM: 8GB DDR3 (2×4)

I play games at 1080P.
Which would be the best part to upgrade my i5 4440 CPU or my 1060 6GB GPU for gaming?

I am aware that if you upgrade the CPU you need ram and a motherboard too

l would look into a B450 or X470 MB, with a Ryzen 5 2600/ 2600x or even a 2700 or 2700x with some 3000 or 3200 MHz ram.
The 1060 is a decent mid level card, I had a 3GB version in my Ryzen 5 2600 rig and it was good for current games at 1080p on medium at 60 fps.
Now I have a GTX 1660 TI Armor 6G OC and I get 85 to 120 fps set at Ultra.

The GTX1060(6 GB) is still quite nice at most all 1080P gaming...

Many would speculate/infer you needed a new CPU/RAM/mainboard for the last 2 years, but, now that AMD is releasing a new mainboard and CPU within 2 months or so, you might be tempted to see what that brings to the table before plunging into a new system right now....

There are some good/excellent prices on both 9400F and R5-2600 CPUs now if you decide you can't wait, however.....
