Hello!

I installed a new Seagate BarraCuda Pro 4 TB today. Problem is Windows does not see 4TB, but instead 1.63TB.

I tried Seagate DiscWizard, but it seems to be missing a part of the application that allows me to extend capacity -__-'

I even tried Asus Disk Unlocker, but it won’t even list any of my drives.

Is there something I can do in the BIOS?

Specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
Intel Core i7 860 @ 2.80GHz
Mobo - ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7P55D-E
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
12GB Memory

Storage: Both Storagedrives are initialized in GPT. File System in NTFS.
SSD – Boot Drive (500GB)
HDD – Storage Drive (2GB)
HDD – Storage Drive (4TB) This is the one showing as 1.63TB in Windows. The Trouble Maker.

You should format the 4TB HDD into the GPT format only.

Op: do you update the intel chipset ( or RST) driver ? Here is the info: https://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/beyond-2tb/

You can download from intel site. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...echnology-Intel-RST-User-Interface-and-Driver
Hi

Thanks for replying.

It's weird. In Samsung Magician it says 3726GB, but I can only create a partition with 1.6TB in Disk Management.

I have the intel driver Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager Driver V8.9.0.1023 this one is from 2009.

the last link you provided it says it's for Windows 10 would it still suffice?

General advice for upgrading to larger hard drive:

1) backup important files

2)check your computer mfg website for bios
or chipset(intel) large hard drive support updates.

3) Large drive support is part of windows.
If your bios cannot handle your larger drive size, then
it will report a smaller size than the actual size
of the drive. This is very common.

On microsoft com you google the partition size limits
for your version of windows.

you will then know if you need to do a wndows service
pack update (free) or upgrade windows to 10.

often a bios or mother board chipset update
will allow your motherboard to see the actual
size of your new drive.

4) you can always keep 2 versions of windows on
the same drive by doing a multiboot installation of
windows 10 and 7.

5) or just use 2 smaller drives that are within your
windows 7 partition size limits.
