public relations by definition means to give service to the public.
This was not a customer support call, so being a customer is moot. She is a member of the public, and a reporter no less, when public relations failed to reply in any way what was she to have done hired a lawyer and sued for the information, no you go over the PR departments head, which leads to his holiness the ass. What else would you expect from Jobs? What else do you expect from a reporter?

His last bit of customer service advice went something like this, if it doesn't work when you hold it like that then don't hold it like that.

He knows that all press is good press. Probably why PR did nothing, one more free article.

The customer is always right, though not at Apple apparently. Though this only is really more evidence of how bad Apple customer relations suck.

...and in a related story, the students of the university have revolted against Apple, with the IT procurement boss now canceling orders on all future iPad purchases...

So much for Steve wanting to be left alone! :)

As much as I dislike Apple's product and overall behavior as a company, I'm with Steve on this one.

The fact that Apple's CEO chose to share his email and takes the time to answer to everyone is admirable imo. And also the fact that he's answering with all honesty, even if it's sometimes brutal, is also a great thing. If you had to manage a big company AND had ~1000+(++++) emails to reply to (and you chose to try and reply to all of them, including stuff that your "lowly" PR chose not to), how would you react? He gave her an answer, not a pretty answer but an answer, but the girl was persistent. Of course he could be more polite, but so could she.

Thumb me down all you like, I don't own a single Apple product but well we should all judge things on a case by case basis shouldn't we?

If this wasn't Apple, nobody would care. Try spamming any CEO and see how they respond.

She should be happy she got any reply at all from Jobs (or likely his email lackey). I am usually anti-Apple, but they did nothing wrong here.

It's understandable the PR dept didn't help. They are too busy trying to squeeze in 50 more "magical", "great", "shiny", "amazing", "wonderful" into their next press release and Steve Job's speech.

[citation][nom]sejin[/nom]Shes just one customer out of 300 million, why should Apple care what she has to say? This is just another example of why I don't like Apple.[/citation]

Because she is a journalist and well as you can see, this is spreading. Not only will the entire college read it but so will millions on the web.

This isn't as bad but is expected from Jobs now. The last time was telling customers that they were doing it wrong.

Hopefully this will open up the peeples eyes to Apple (all but die hard fanboys) and let them see that they are nothing but a group of over priced elitest snobs.

Blackberry this, blackberry that, Jesus f(*&^ng Christ give it a rest. Lets not forget that the iPhone isn't an option on T-Mobile unless you jailbreak it and I think we know Steve's position on that. Now if it were an option then straight up there's an argument (albeit small). I don't think anyone should be expected to jump ship to a new carrier for a novelty perk. I've been with T-M/VoiceStream for ten years. I view this exclusive tie of Apple and AT&T, just like the EVO 4G & Motorola Droid, as all being really shady. For a lot of people what they can't have outside their carrier is rightfully beneath their notice.

Dear Chelsea:
Welcome to the real world. Get used to it. You'll become a part of it once you leave academia.

I don't understand why you felt that Apple owed you any response. They are a computer maker - their focus is the bottom line (like any successful business). What part of that makes you feel they owe you an interview?

So - you set yourself up with an impossible task. Was that the only way to get information for your assignment? What would Apple gain by giving you that interview? Would having that information for your assignment help Apple sell more products in any way?

As a journalism major isn't it your job to find the right way to successfully get your questions answered? That's about resourcefulness. Not getting sulky if you don't get your way. If you think that having your article in the school newspaper is going to make Apple money... You might want to consider getting some schooling in economics or business.

I can't tell you how annoying when it is when students contact my business wanting information for class assignments (rather than doing their research on the web….) Getting a call about high priced professional equipment from a student calling on a cell phone in a noisy area while walking to class really stinks. Sometimes students call here seeking information under false pretenses - saying they have a budget to buy (high end products). Why do they expect me to take time away from my business just to make them happy? What are they going to do to return the favor?

Here's something you probably have never been taught, by teachers, friends or family though I hope you learn it some day. If you want a favor from someone you have to keep in mind what's in it for the them. It's not like in school where professors are paid to answer your questions.

[citation][nom]zoemayne[/nom]I hate apple but this is unreasonable + she sent her messages with a Blackberry!!! Apple has too many customers the CEO should not be dealing with this.[/citation]

no... their PR department should be... I believe that was her point.

[citation][nom]vant[/nom]Sad that all of you would believe that jobs would even bother responding to her.Another fake email.[/citation]
And I thought I was the only intelligent one. Tom's should check their facts.
