You know ... with all the email threading going on and energies being spent on denial and the such: He could have just simply got them to give her what she wanted (company restricting of course) and possibly got some good academic press out of it, good grade or not. I am not anti apple.. but I have begun get a major distaste for closed source software and hardware... Hence the reason I cannot recomend any windows or apple product unless it is truly needed due to lack of development on other platforms. The field can be "leveled" if the hardware was open and consumers have the ability ( with little to no hacking ) of running what ever operating system their hardware can handle. The customers ... NOT Apple, Intel, or Microsoft, is making this happen. Granted we all don't have the power to respond to the 100s of millions that like their product and God Bless the Customer service people for all they have is these canned responses that "come from up high" because of the threat of company secrets being leaked or God forbid recommend some sort of fix that isn't documented anywhere except the netherregions of this here World Wide Wonder. All this because Apple is afraid of what could be "good press" or "Bad press" whats it gonna be ? .. get your head out of your arses and get with the program: Apple .. no harm was done other than starting an email thread that really could have ended with an hour of your time a mindless distraction from what the normal crap you have to go through... It's gamk moves like this that make me glad I have decided to learn a new OS that is neither windows or MacOS and still get things done. It's actions like this that will dictate what type of journalism we see in the future.

First, Blackberry or not, snotty or not, she is asking simple questions, they should have been able to answer. Second, Steve Jobs as the CEO of such a large company should have known better than to respond in such a fashion, knowing that its going to leak. Part of his job is to make sure there are no PR messes, and this albeit a small one, is still a mess. This just shows again that Steve Jobs is a lunatic, regardless of the success he may or may not be responsible for.
Bottom line though, whatever your opinion of Apple:
Jobs is the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Thats NOT the type of response he should be giving to any one. Irresponsible on his part.
She however gets a pass on her attitude: She is probably 22 and certainly NOT the CEO of a fortune 500 company.
My opinion, he knows it doesnt matter, because he could probably get up on stage and tell the whole world they are a bunch of dumb asses for buying Apple product, and the Apple fanbois are SO blinded they STILL wouldnt care.

Has anyone bothered to confirm this story yet? I find it hard to believe that Jobs responded to her personally just once, let alone 3 times. Sounds fishy to me.

[citation][nom]zoemayne[/nom]I hate apple but this is unreasonable + she sent her messages with a Blackberry!!![/citation]

I'm not sure I understand your point here.

Does Apple have a license to ignore a customer who *GASP* uses something other than an iPhone to send a text?

If you're being sarcastic, my apologies... :)

"Our goals do not include helping you get a good grade. Sorry"
Hahahha. Love it!!!!

Its a good point though. I run a business and get snot nosed 'college' (not university) students calling up wanting me spend a few hours teaching them about the industry and give them free samples etc. Will they pay me? Will they bollocks. They usually aren't even polite.

As voted, we run the best retail business in the biggest council in our state. We won that award again and more because we focus on our customers. Paying or potential. Every minute i spend wasting time with some lazy student is a minute less i have looking after you.

I'm not a fan of Apple but I have to take their side. They can not take the time to cater to the needs of every person who calls or emails them. It's impossible. To think she had the right to get what she wanted from them was more arrogant than Jobs response.

Seriously, I call BS on this thing. I mean, I can't believe that the PR @Apple would be so stupid to respond in that way! I work for a small software company (we have 73 employees) and our clients span all continents, with over 4 million users! We have 9 tech support people per 6h shift, 3 shifts a day, 360 days a year. I am SEO/Marketing Manager. I seriously doubt Apple, with all their cash, would let this happen. It just doesn't make sense.

I am an Apple hater, but is just too much. Nowadays, everyone tries to irritate Steve Jobs because he actually answers lots of emails. And if he actually answers and they find even the slightest part that can be considered "news" they go public.

"Hey, I talked to Steve Jobs and he was rude"
"Hey, I talked to Steve Jobs, and he says iPhone is just fine"...

Such people suck. This "journalist" don't care about privacy of the conversation, and just wants to irritate the CEO of a huge company with her pity demands. So sad...

Well, I think that she owned an iPad with the hope that she will perform hear job (assignment) faster and easier, so that she will be able to have a good grade, right ?

It's like you advertise for a new cutting tool (chainsaw) which cuts faster that the rude tool that you own (ax). At the end, you tell the buyer that it wasn't you goal ? Something is wrong between the lines.

Yes the girl is snooty. Very. But she is a kid - what is Steve's excuse? He could have said "I am sure you understand that it is not our responsibility to assist students in their assignments, but I have forwarded on your email for answer. - Steve". He would have saved minutes of his life in avoiding the to-and-fro responses from the girl, and a PR blow would transform into a PR win. Is a shame that Steve consistently demonstrates that he does not have an iota of class.

"Chelsea Kate Isaacs, a senior at Long Island University, was recently given an assignment about the school's new practice of giving all incoming students an iPad."

Jesus Christ, now I know where all those many thousands of $ of tuition you Americans pay for college go to. Don't these schools know most students are cash strapped as it is, they shouldn't need to pay for an iPad they might not even want, especially after tuition has gone up again this year? I'm glad I live in "socialized" Western Europe...

The guy is a billionaire CEO. What do people expect? Actual concern for consumers? This gives me lulz.

Now I have to burn my fingers for actually typing "lulz" in a post...

What was it that Yahoo answers thing said about the girl that wanted the comeback when asked by her boyfriend to make him a sandwich?

I think this girl needs to listen and leave apple alone.
