I knew how to do this once, but forgot, not having done it for a long time.
With XP Pro machine not in a domain, how does one switch between Home-style
logon of clicking user-name buttons, to dialog-style of typing in user name &
password, with or without Ctrl-Alt-Del? I need to go both ways - switch
machines removed from a domain to home-style log-on, and machines in a
workgroup to dialog-driven log-on.
Thanks.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change the way
users log on or off.
Removing the check mark from "Use the Welcome Screen" will give
you the Windows 2000 style "Logon to Windows" box.

If you want to require users to have to use the Ctrl + Alt +
Del key combination to logon, do the following:
Go to Start -> Run and enter control userpasswords2 in the Open
box. Click OK.
Click on the Advanced tab.
In the Secure Logon section, put a check mark in the box next
to "Require users to press Ctrl + Alt + Del".
