I forgot about those. Still excellent units as one would expect from Seasonic. Solid tier 2.

I did some spec comparison, yes, it does appear to be the non-modular version of the G-series, an S12G.
Does Seasonic have an inferior fan on these? Does XFX or Seasonic have better fans (or are they the same)?

I'm sort of between XFX Core/Seasonic equivalent and the XFX TS Gold/Seasonic Equivalent. A quieter/better PSU will certainly be important to my decision since this PC is in a bedroom.

all have quality ball bearing fans that will last long enough, i wouldnt worry. as for the noise levels unless you will run it close to its max performance you will barely notice it!

Do these have the hybrid fan mode the Black Edition PSUs have?

Agreed, XFX claims the XTR and TS Gold units all have the hybrid fans.
I can find no mention of the Core Editions having anything specific for cooling.

Does Seasonic use anything similar or is theirs always on full bore?

Seasonic uses it on all their higher end models. Even with the fan on and hours of gaming I can't hear the fan on my 660XP2. I would expect any Platinum or X series model to be similarly quiet.

No just the X and Platinum series. The G series does have a heat regulated fan though. The G series would be considered mid ranged and the S12G is a 'budget' unit although it's better than 90% of the units on the market so don't let that label fool you.

What are you wanting to power and what is your budget?

So the S12G does NOT have a regulated fan even though the XFX equivalent does? If so that makes the XFX a better choice.

I'm leaning towards 550w, even though my last PSU was 600w:
FX-8320 (with a light overclock at stock voltage)
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0
Gigabyte GTX 660 (factory o/c'd)
8gb Ripjaws X DDR3 1866
2x WD 7200rpm (1TB Black and 500gb Blue)
Five 80mm case fans with a fan controller
Internal BD Burner
PCI USR fax/modem

Edit: Sorted. Bought a Rosewill 650-M for $75. Should cover everything I need. Thanks for the great info guys.

[strike]Can we add in the EVGA 600B? It came out around february 2014 and I'm starting to see a bit of users on the forums asking about it.[/strike]

Just did a quick CTRL+F and found it. My mistake.

It's on the list.....and yes you can OC with it...don't believe that crap it isn't that bad....actually pretty solid for the price.

better than corsair CX

I was wondering what Tier the Xilence Performance A 530W belongs to. Someone asked about it.
Here are some reviews:

Here is another Xilence PSU, Redwing 350W, which did not fare well. http://extreme.pcgameshardware.de/anleitungen-wichtige-praxis-und-test-artikel/340691-review-preiswert-vs-billig-vier-netzteile-bis-45-euro-im-test.html#k1

No. Very comparable to the CX but certainly not better. Both are budget units not designed to be stressed and both use second rate capacitors. HEC is the EVGA OEM and CWT is the Corsair OEM. Personally I would go with CWT.

Xilence is not a brand I am familiar with and there seem to be no real reviews of their products. Based on the OEMs they use I would say avoid them unless they are the only models available to you.

The EVGA has better crappy capacitors haha...teapo's

CX has a bunch of CapXcon those are just really crappy....

EVGA is better

EVGA now mostly use Super Flower designs, with either Rubycon or Niccon Chemicon capacitors. They will only use Teapo caps for their B series.

I have a 400W 1 year old PSU in my system. It has just enough power to hold my GPU. Yesterday I found in my village an old PSU at 500w. It's not listed because you removed old PSUs, so I wanted to ask if is it good. Here it is:
ALLIED Tech SL-8500BTX
It will be able to handle my gpu, but does it provide a stable performance?

It's in Tier 5 as Apex (SUPERCASE/ALLIED)

Thanks. So I will sell it and I will buy a Corsair from the CX or CXM series when i have the money.

Just bought a XFX Proseries XXX 650W PSU and is a bit dissapointed in how noisy it is. It's not like it's really loud but it's noticable compared to my crappy LC 550W 120mm fan PSU (Linkworld), which ran almost dead silence. I appreciate that the components in my PSU is much better than my old PSU but I don't think the XFX XXX series deserves to be in tier one.

The ADDA ADN512UB-A90 fan used in the XFX ProSeries XXX Edition isn't considered to be of the highest quality. Noise is subjective. Some people will consider it quiet if it's being masked by noise from other sources within the operating environment but some won't.

Tier 2, it's a very good unit. However it is getting a bit old and something newer that is a step up in quality and performance like the G series is generally available for a very similar price. The S12II is not compatible with Haswell low power states. It will work fine in a Haswell system but you will have to disable the C6 and C7 states in BIOS.
