Currently have the following components

current Motherboard
AMD ROG Zenith Extreme x399

current CPU
AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X 16-Core Processor, 3700 Mhz

I am considering a CPU upgrade.
Possibly

AMD Threadripper PRO 7000WX or 7975WX.

3 questions
How would I establish compatibility with my current motherboard?
Should I be considering a motherboard upgrade as well?
For CPU benchmark comparisons what is a good reference?

your motherboard only supprts the cpus on this site with up to date Bios version:

Not possible. CPU is either supported or not supported.
You check cpu compatibility list of the motherboard.

Should I be considering a motherboard upgrade as well?

AMD Threadripper PRO 7000WX or 7975WX will require a new motherboard.

You should since the 7000 series Threadripper processor need a TRX50 or WRX90 chipsetted motherboard.
