Hi,
I have onboard sound and a usb soundcard. I want to set
the USB soundcard as the default device when I use one
account (the account i have all my music creation apps and
files installed under), but I want to have my onboard
sound set as the default device for all other accounts.
This is because the usb card is also connected to powered
monitor speakers and a huge mixing desk, and it annoys my
girlfriend to have all this humming away when she wants to
use the pc to listen to a cd etc...

I think if you try to use on board sound and a card at the same time you may
well have conflicts, as it is usually recommended to disable on board sound
in the bios, when installing a sound card.
Allthough you 'may' be able to do this via hardware profiles.
