I have a v3 1000 and a spare pentium heatsink that is laying around. I would like to mount the heatsink and get the card from 128/128 to 166/166. I've ran the card at 141/141 and haven't dared to any higher with no heatsinks. The memory is rated to 166mhz and it won't let me overclock the memory seperately. Back to my question what kind of glue is strong but has good heat transfer??? I know artic silver adhesive is the right stuff to use but i don't wanna spend $15 on glue for a card that isn't worth jack. I've heard J.B. weld has good heat transfer but im not sure so i haven't tried it.

JB-Weld is a metalic epoxy, it works great, I even use it on CPU's when the socket clips are broken, and use it exclusively on all my video cards.
It's messy, use only a thin coat. Press hard enough to make the film thin and remove air pockets.

Ok now for my next question how much weight will a video card take?? I have two old pentium heatsinks but i'm not sure which one to use yet.

How do you remove the old video heatsink? I have a Visiontek GTS-V video card with a cheapy steel heatsink. I don't want to try prying it. The GPU has a BGA interface and does not look rugged at all. I can see the adhesive holding the heatsink but it looks like epoxy.

I usually lay a thin knife against the card to protect the circuites, then insert a thin screwdriver between the knife and the heatsink. They are usually easy to get off. If you get it cold first it makes the epoxy more brittle.

I didn't think it'd be a problem. Since my mem is rated to 166 i should be able to get the card to 166/166 with the heatsink on right?? Maybe?? I've gotten it to 141/141 and haven't dared to any further in fear of burning out the card.

Crashman, I have no intention of "baking" my video card like you once mentioned. How long does JB-Weld take to cure at room temperature?

About 4 hours. I have never tried the "fast setting" version. But if you leave your card set overnight, that's far more time than needed. Sometimes I leave them sit for an hour and throw them in the computer half-set, the heat from the chip cures it faster as well. Just make sure you press it hard enought to push out any air bubbles and any excess adhesive.

I kno, the mem on my Voodoo3 isn't ddr, but i meant do u think the core would go to 166??

Hey it's worth a shot isn't it??

I'm really tempted to try it. I think a nice big heatsink would look nice on the v3.

Now another question... Which J.B. Weld do i get?? The Quick set one or just the regular one??
