Perhaps you can help

I am using MSN Messenger V6.2

(Windows Messenger is also installed)

Whiteboard and application sharing do not work

Sound, video and file transfer work OK

Looking in Tools/Options/Connection I have the following message:

You are connected to the Internet through a non-UPnP symmetric NAT
(Administrator)

I am connected with a D-Link DSL-504T ADSL router with the following setup

UPnP enabled

Firewall & NAT enabled

DMZ not enabled

Port forwarding

TCP,UDP 1024-1064,1863,6901

TCP 1503,1720,1731,522,389,1503,5190,6891-6900

I am running Windows XP with SP2

Greetings Dave,

The RTC (Real-Time Communications) component which powers the audio conversations of MSN
Messenger can actually establish a connection even without an UPnP (detected anyway) NAT, the
Webcam functionality can do the same (and use a relay server) and file transfer can send
files directly through the server.

However, Whiteboard and Application Sharing do require an UPnP-enabled NAT (even with the
proper port forwarded; 1503) as it needs to send the proper IP information to your contact
(and has nothing to fall back on).

You might try installing the UPnP components in Windows -- click Start, Control Panel, Add or
Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, and under Networking Services, make sure that
Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client as well as UPnP is installed.

Jonathan
Thanks for your quick response to my query
I have done as you suggested, but both UPnP and Internet Gateway Discovery
and Control Client are already installed
It does seem from the message in MSN Messsenger tools/options/connection
that Windows is not recognising my router as UPnP enabled.
Dou you have any other suggestions?
Regards
Dave
