Question Xeon E5450 CPU on Asus P5G41T-M-LX2/GB Motherboard

I brought Xeon E5450 modded (LGA771->775) CPU but didn't installed yet on motherboard, currently I have Core 2 Duo E8500 and BIOS updated to latest 504 version (I updated it about 7 month ago).. So now I'm gonna install that modded cpu on mobo but do I need to reupdate BIOS? I want answer from guys who really knows something about Xeon server processors..

what motherboard do you got? on some you have to mod the bios on some it works without bios mod.

I would have bought something, like an X3230, that does not need any adapter to run. It was a kentsfield based model. I do not remember the model sku's for the yorkfield based ones, but there were actual 775 models.

this motherboard supports LGA 771 Xeon E5450 equivalent LGA775 C2Quad Q9650 CPU, it's only bios what makes me confused..

if it works as it should you dont need to do anything. it will probably work on that motherboard without bios mod. if it dont you have to search for modded bios.

Modded BIOS = BIOS with additional microcode's for newer CPUs features functioning
and if my current CPU C2Duo E8500 with more features works properly on 0504 BIOS, why this Xeon CPU with less features(instructions) needs modded bios .. Hollymolly
