Hey my fellow gurus, I have a question here. Im getting a gift for my cousin a 3080. I also bought him the 2700x rig. My question is is a 2700x and a 3080 a good combo for 2k gaming. I know the 2700x came out around the time the 9900k came out and they perform similar but Im not hundred percent believing that. Should I get him a 3060 instead or 3070 or will I get a bottleneck there as well. Thanks again my brothers and sisters in arms. 🙈🤷‍♀️👶

Yes, that's a fair way to look at it. There will almost always be 'better' performance to be had via another configuration - but the 2700X would pair well with a 3080 or 3090.

As for 'which' 3080.... at this stage in the game, whichever you could get your hands on would be the one you should opt for 😂

From what I've seen, the ASUS TUF cards are some of the better performers in terms of noise/temps etc, at the lower-end of the pricepoint. The models still to launch will be the higher end ROG, AORUS options and will be priced higher. With a $699 MSRP starting point for the FE, I'd look for something priced no more than maybe~$750.

The 2700X will pair well with a 3080.
There's probably leaving a little bit of performance on the table vs a 9900K/10900K/10850K + 3080 combo, but it's negligible. Not enough to warrant a whole platform shift or scaling back to a 3070 or even a 60 class card.

If the budget works, a 2700X + 3080 would be a very nice 1440p option..... Assuming high refresh rate 1440p of course, otherwise the 3080 would be a waste.

Pure gaming, below 4K res, the 2700X takes a backseat (frame rate deficit in average FPS) by 15-20% to the 9900K/10700K when both are given strong 1080P GPUs...; the 3700X narrows that deficit to perhaps 8-10%... (The forthcoming R7-5700X/5800X might erase the deficit entirelyl hopefully some gaming comparisons will occur the end of this month!)

Thank you all for your kind messages. I appreciate it a lot. So in conclusion there will be a slight bottleneck meaning he wont be able to get all the FPS the video card can dish out however as I read this thread it is a good combo and in the future if we upgrade him he will see even more FPS and what not. Thanks all. BTW his 2700x is not OCed its factory OCed hes like 4.1Ghz or 3.9Ghz. He says his computer is super fast after coming from a Core 2 Quad lol. Well get him the 3080 after reading all your posts. Thank you very much again. One last question which 3080 should he opt for. MSI ? EVGA ? Gigabyte or ASUS. His budget is about 800 to 900 bucks. Thanks again ✌👶🤷‍♀️🙈👍
