I'm upgrading an old system I found for a family member, and wondering what the best upgrade would be with a budget of £350-£400 tops

The components I need are:
- CPU
- RAM
- Mobo
- GPU
- PSU (Current PSU doesn't seem to have any issues but it's 10 years old so would prefer the upgrade).

I'm thinking Ryzen 5 5600 to start, and b550 board if possible. Unsure on GPU's within this budget, RX 6600 maybe? (Honestly no clue what's best price-performance/potential bottlenecks).

Willing to buy used GPU if needed.

System would likely be used for 1080p games and light 1440p later down the line.

Any help is appreciated.

Your idea of a 5600, b550 and 6600 is a good place to start.

Right now the 5600x is only a couple pounds more than the 5600, worth buying.

Board here is an excellent budget board. You could save 20 or so with a cheap a520, but it's not worth it.

Would recommend the stretch to 32gb ram if possible, but you could buy 16 now like this and still have 2 slots available to upgrade down the line.

Here's a decent 6600 and reasonable budget power supply.

Used gpu would get you in budget. A 6600xt or 7600 is a fairly sizable upgrade over the regular 6600 if you can find one of those for not much more.
