Having some issues after upgrading my board and cpu, B450 Tomohawk MAX + R7 5800x to B650 Elite AX V2 + R7 9800x3D

Updated my bios through qflash+, took ~5 mins, the flashing lights changed speeds and then psu powered off like I was told should happen, so I imagine it has updated fine.

Put everything together and I’m getting boot and cpu error light, no image being picked up on monitor, fans seem to be spinning but the cpu fan looks like it restarts after a while.

Potentially relevant information:

My new board has an 8 pin cpu power socket (only one im using) with a 4 pin socket a small distance from it, read online i should only need to use the 8pin unless overclocking, but wondering if it’s relevant.

Did attempt to use the qflash+ system a few hours before the assumed successful bios update, I hadn’t renamed the file then so i had to reassemble my old system to do so.

When doing my “successful” bios update the cpu error light was on but at the time i had assumed it was due to me not having a cpu installed, as its not necessary when using qflash.

Spent my entire day trying to get this to work so all help is appreciated!

A B450 Tomahawk MAX motherboard does not support a 9800x3d., it only supports up to a 5000 serries CPU.

The B450 is a socket AM4 and the 9800x3d is socket AM5. AM4 only supports serries 1000, 2000, 3000, and 5000.
Maybe I gave too much information, I have upgraded from the B450 to a B650

B650 Elite AX V2
9800x3D
7900xtx
Crucial 2x 16gb 6000mhz cl36 ram
PSU (MSI A1000G PCIE5 1000 W 80+ Gold)

New board and cpu, used qflash to update bios, had cpu and boot error light that then went away next boot up, became dram error light that disappeared and is now VGA error light.

Gpu fans are spinning, just like all other fans, tried different ports on both gpu and monitor, monitor picks up some form of data then says theres nothing display and returns to standby, tried internal graphics and its the same.

I don’t know what to do next?

Did you clear the CMOS after verifying that the BIOS flashing process was successful? On a side note, which slots are the rams populating on the board? How are you cooling the processor? Without the discrete GPU in your build, you should still be able to work off the iGPU.

Stick to one thread, unless you want spaghetti brains.

Apologies,

• I didn’t, followed a video guide and it hadn’t mentioned clearing anything so am unaware Im supposed to(?)
•Rams are in slot 2 and 4
•Cpu cooler is “Noctua NH-U12A chromax.black 60.09 CFM CPU Cooler”
•Am i required to remove my gpu to use the iGPU?

Clear the CMOS by disconnecting from the wall and display, remove the CMOS battery, press and hold down the power button for 30secs to drain any residual power, then replace the CMOS battery after 30mins.

You mean slots A2 and B2? They are labelled on the motherboard's PCB right next to the ram slots.

Without fastening the CPU cooler, try and merely rest the cooler on the CPU IHS. This will need you to have the build on it's side if you've built it inside a case. Sometime too much mounting pressure can cause pins to not make contact in the socket.

You'd be better served to remove the discrete GPU from your build, then hook up to the iGPU and then power up the build.

So am I required to purchase a new battery or by replace you just mean put back?

Yes sorry, slots A2 and B2

Will try unscrewing the cpu cooler and removing the gpu to use the iGPU, do you think the cpu is still having issues then, although the cpu error light has stopped?

Was also told the error lights show based on priority “they are in order of priority, CPU, RAM, VGA, BOOT” so ram and cpu are clear?
