Hey everyone! Thanks for taking time to read through this. I've been suffering with a laptop stutter for at least 7 months and have scoured the internet for research.

I finally figured out the root of the issue. It has to do with AMD and fTPM conflicting, thus causing a consistent gaming stutter happening about every other minute. It's kinda funny how it makes me play. Nevertheless, I would like to resolve it lol.

I do not find the fTPM function on my UEFI BIOS (see below for info on it).
BIOS Version/Date:
American Megatrends International, LLC. G513QY.331, 2/24/2023

Does anyone know where to find it? I'll post screenshots for reference in this Google Doc link. Thanks again everyone! I tried multiple methods which Ill list below so as to avoid complicating this forum. If it happens, ah well haha.

1. In Powershell, i disabled TPM Auto Provisioning with this command thinking it'd open up settings to shut off TPM:
Disable-Tpmautoprovisioning
Turns out, no new settings were open and after testing, the game would still stutter with this. Thus, I reenabled it.

2. Turned off Secure Boot in BIOS menu to test.
Turns out, no difference in game stutter. So I knew TPM was not somehow involved with that option.

3. I ran dialogue box (Windows + R) and typed in tpm.msc to attempt to disable it.
Turns out, there was no disable option. Only clear, and refresh. Even so, just to test it, after testing, the stutter remained.

you can´t disable it on this laptop

all drivers updated? like amd chipset and gpu drivers from asus.com website?

run other tests to verify it´s tpm related
run userbenchmark.com and post the http link of your result, e.g. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/28977730

check windows integrity
open the command prompt as administrator and type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...em-files/bc609315-da1f-4775-812c-695b60477a93

clean boot
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

check the memory by running memtest.org usb autoinstaller (bootable USB flash drive)

check the hard drive for errors with its manufacturer´s tool and if available, update the firmware

So the windows integrity said the "restore operation completed successfully. . .100%"

Bear with me. Im following these tests

Im in the middle of the Memory test. This one is taking awhile haha. 30m so far. Anywho, no errors as of yet.

The userbenchmark link u sent, I was so confused as per the results lol. Some of the things seemed to be missing. Or maybe there’s something I’m missing…?

heya HelpStar, so, I ran all the tests and cleanbooted, but it still did it's stutter. Ill try the userbenchmark again following ur specific instructions and see if that makes a difference.

For reference, this link may provide more insight into the matter. It's what gave me my "a-haa" moment.

any errors shown or corrected?
you might using the wrong GPU for gaming
check if the correct one is being used while gaming
as per this, I believe my system automatically decides which AMD card to use. I didn't see a function to default one or the other in the Graphics driver settings platform.

The ftpm menu in the asus motherboard bios is in the advanced area, but its normal for bios in laptops to miss features that would be in full size motherboards. I can't find anything apart from someone else not finding it either.

I don't think you will be able to get the laptop to run off anything other than igpu in windows.
I just worked out thats what userbenchmark is seeing.

curious if there are any new chipset drivers, you have newest bios and yet newest chipset drivers on Asus are 2 years ago. Try running this and see what it finds - https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-131

ill get right on it

I ran it (i've actually ran this multiple times before) and it said "the version of AMD Software installed is already a compatible version. Please check if the AMD Display driver is working correctly."

I have downloaded the updated versions of the graphics driver. So instead of using the one on the ROG link on their website, I have the adrenaline version that came out in January 2024.

Hmm, I was hoping it would give more than just GPU drivers as it says it also checks chipset drivers.
I don't know what the chipset on the laptop would be or I would have just given you a link direct to it.

GPU drivers for laptops that switch between cards can be special ones. Using the adrenalin drivers from AMD may mess with switching process but I guess you will find out.

hmmmm. I am investigating what Chipset I have. Idk how to get it exactly, but ill find it.

i couldn't figure it out. Searching by CPU doesn't get you very far.
motherboard doesn't want to reveal its secrets - http://www.barebonekit.net/asus-rog-strix-g17-mb-60nr06x0-mb3000_i_mbltp60nr06x030.aspx
AMD Page on how to update laptop chipset drivers is blank... mainly you meant to get them off laptop maker but I would have thought there be new ones still.
It could be a wrong path. I might be wasting your time.
progress is progress Colif. Even if it's scratching things off the possibilites.
