so im kind of in a weird situation here. let me explain.🦔
let me start, these are my current specs
SPECS
cpu. i3 7350k at 4.2 ghz
gpu. 1050ti
psu. its an offbrand sketchy 600watt with non modular cables and very short. very very old too. it was my dads from when he was building computers in south africa.
storage. two 1TB hard drives and an also very old 64gb ssd that my dad had in his old rig. only have 2 normal size sata things on my motherboard so i use one 1tb and the ssd.
and if i use the mass storage sata things nothing shows up in bios or "this pc" so maybe the power connector going to it might be bad
motherboard is some sort of atx z370 lga1151. lost boxes in last move forget model.
SITUATION
im trying to become a cyber security programmer/analyst. work from home mostly.
so its not like a hardware intensive job but i don't want to have my livelihood depending on ratty ass system.
my parents are in the mindset of a $300 computer is as good as a $1000 one. my dad is kind of open but all he sees is the money even as an OG pc gamer. but im only 15 so im not allowed to teach them anything.
im getting a job soon so im going to set a goal of $1500 to upgrade by the end of summer this year.
STATEMENTS AND QUESTIONS
my idea of an upgrade
i5 8400 or i5 9400f
8th or 9th gen motherboard
32gb ddr4
fully modular psu
a very very very fast ssd or nvme ssd main drive. windows linux python c++ java whatever i learn
high refresh rate ultrawide for work and gaming
gtx 1660ti new or gtx 1080 used
i want something to think about while im sweating my ass off.
it would be great to get help from someone who knows more than i do
what are your thoughts? do you have any general recommendations?
If anyone sees this, thank you for reading.
