Whenever I copy something to my pendrive, the speed goes to ~30MB/s then it comes down to 0KB/s. Then again accelerates to around ~30 MB/s then again decreases gradually to 0KB/s and so on. It is really weird to copy, lets say, 1GB with this fluctuation! Tried both Fat32 and NTFS but no luck.

Pendrive - SanDisk Ultra Fit
Capacity - 32GB

Solution
Some transfer speed fluctuations is normal but not to this extent.
Does this problem also show up with other storage?

Assuming your PC's storage is alright, a possibility is a usb driver issue.
You can try to reinstall drivers by

Going to Device manager
Uninstalling the usb controller (Should be under Universal Serial Bus controllers)
Rebooting
Reinsert usb devices
Wait a while for them to install

Ps: You might lose mouse and keyboard functionality :p

Consolidated reply to all plus more info.
  • updated drivers in the Device Manager and everything looks up-to-date
  • copying from hdd (pc)
  • this pendrive is Sandisk Ultra Fit 32GB 3.0 (putting it in 3.0 slot only)
  • Noticed it happens in other computers/laptops too.
Q — is there something with the “allocation size” while formatting?
