Hi everyone, first post here.

So I decided to upgrade 90% of my pc (everything but the case) and have taken it all apart to finally assemble the new parts.

Spec :
ryzen 7 5800x
rx 6700XT
32gb ram netac ddr4 3200
corsair 80 plus bronze 750w
msi b550 tomahawk atx (apparently 5000 series ready…)
1tb nvme3 wd green
another sata drive and a hdd

So i fitter everything together with little problem (other than i can’t seem to find all the usb cables from the front panel on the case but that’s a different issue). the real issue is when i decided to boot up and test it, CPU debug light turned on. I re fit everything, changed RAM slots, used one stick etc. after trying a few things I came to the conclusion the bios will need flashing, which is annoying as i bought this motherboard as it said 5000 series ready as I have no means of flashing this as this is my only computer and i traded the old parts in. I am also 80% sure when i first booted that the graphics card lit up and the fans on it were working, but after I reseated everything including the graphics card, It know does not seem to power on.

so my question is, if this BIOS update does work which I will do later on tonight, what are the chances this was also affecting my GPU and that there is no problem, or is it a possibility my GPU is dead.

Thanks for reading !

A few things come to mind. Did you plug the CPU fan cable into the labeled CPU fan 4 pin connector on the motherboard? Did you plug in the CPU supplemental power cable on the motherboard? Have you checked the CPU for bent pins? What is the exact model of your PSU?

Unrelated but still concerning, are you using the WD green NVMe drive as your OS drive?

Hi yes I have done the mentioned points.

and no not yet the OS is on the sata drive, however i was planning on moving it. Should i not ?

It is only rated for 100TBW endurance. Since the OS drive has lots of updates over time it will eat through a lot of that endurance. You can do it, just a word of caution to you about it. The PSU is what I would call good enough for what you are doing. I was just confirming what you had as you were a bit vague.

Have you tried breadboarding the system?

Yes I have also tried that, I have just now cleared the CMOS and also updated the bias but that didn’t help, also reapplied thermal paste and placed cpu back in with cpu cooler. I took the graphics card to local computer shop to test it ahd it was working fine so that isn’t an issue. However now my power button doesn’t work, and i checked the power switch is plugged in the right place in the mobo

So, you either have a power issue, a motherboard issue, or a defective CPU. When you installed the motherboard you are sure there were not any extra motherboard standoffs that the motherboard does not use pressing up on the bottom of the board? Do you have any way of testing the PSU? At the very least a paperclip test?

There may have been extra stand offs actually, could this cause a problem ? i’m not sure about testing the PSU but it is brand new

If there were standoffs that the motherboard does not use pressing up against the board it could cause several things like shorts, and physical damage to the board. New PSUs can come DOA, or dead on arrival. If the PSU does not work, or it provides power but not to what is expected of it, this can cause problems. Usually PSUs either work or they don't. This could be a case where the PSU is DOA because it is not functioning properly.

tried with my old PSU and having similar problems, got the motherboard on the box with 24pin connected and the cpu inside and still the same problem
