Question Screen Black When Overclocking

I have never overclocked anything before and have started to get low FPS in games with my new 2k 144hz monitor. I tried to overclock but nothing changed. I was using the Valley Benchmark 1.0 and wasn't seeing a rise in FPS. I kept going, the temperature was fine and didn't see any artifacts. All of a sudden my monitors turned black and couldn't find a signal. I restarted my PC and everything was fine. I tried again slowly going up testing every time i raised the core clock and then my mouse was all laggy. Im not sure what happened because I know my PC can handle more.

GPU: GTX 1080
CPU: Intel i7-8700k
RAM: 16GB DDR4 2400
PSU: Corsair RM750x
Mobo: ROG Strix Z370-Gaming

Any core overclocking should also include increased voltage.

I did that too, until it reached the maximum of 120
