If you install Ubuntu 16.10 and install the latest drivers in the PPA (simple GUI "Additional Drivers" install), you will get a working driver that supports all cards except perhaps 1050s. I am not sure if the patched drivers for the 1050s has been released to Linux yet. With the 7.4.15 client you have to manually set the slot/OpenCL/CUDA IDs as it has a bug and does not do it correctly. I just switched my GTX 960 over this weekend (because the CPU does a decent bit better in Linux) and saw a equal or a little better PPD on the GPU vs. Windows 10. So GPUs definitely work in Linux and while there are a few hiccups, if you use Ubuntu we should be able to help you through them.

Glad that card is working for you. Figured it would be a good one to replace the 780 Ti with.

Wow the phantom folder appears out of no where. :ouimaitre:

Welcome to the TEAM and thanks for Folding!

Over 50. Seen it, done it, can't remember it, but I miss it.

Seems we have a lot in common.

Welcome back friend. 😀

I haunted the pages of Tom's at one time, but left for several years and folded for another website's team. That website quit some time ago and I decided to migrate back to Tom's. Some of the people here remember me. I was pretty high in world folding standings for the other team, as can be seen on page one of the world standings. Oh yeah, I'm not long "over 50", but over "over 65" now, so there's a few more thing I can't remember. I do remember overclocking IBM 80286 CPUs, if that gives a hint of computer experience. Right now I'm waiting for the GTX1080 Ti cards to comes out so I can bump my PPD up a bit. You'll be seeing me a bit more often now as I'm stuck in the snow for the winter. Come spring, I'll be traveling a bit. Someplace nice and warm, but not too hot, like Tahiti maybe?

You should check out my part of the Country.
If you are an outdoors type or just love driving and checking out the views, it is a great place to visit.
We have 3 kayaking/canoeing/tubing rivers. Many, many miles of hiking trails ( Appalachian Trail starts here.)
Some of the best biking roads in America. Also very fun in a sports car. Lots of big and small waterfalls.

I have traveled to 17 countries and a bout half of the united states. But I have yet to find somewhere I would rather call home.

WB Sailer! Know I'm a fresh face around here, but your folding certainly precedes you.

In other news, looks like the stats server took a nap, wonder when they'll get it back in action...

I just took some downtime too - managed to pop a circuit breaker on the room where I was folding at... soooooo... moved it to my computer dungeon which is wired a little more robustly (two Xeon servers, one media server, main folding rig and general purpose computer, secondary and tertiary folding rig...

Hmmm... I think I'm getting to the point where I might be better off consolidating rigs and using more potent cards for folding. But... I'm cheap, what can I say. 😀

https://foldingathome.stanford.edu/2017/01/30/release-new-core-21-v-0-0-18-support-nvidia-drivers-375-57/

We are pleased to announce the release of core 21 v0.0.18 to full FAH. The updated core will be pushed out automatically for both windows and linux donors over the next week as projects are updated to require this min-core-version.

This release contains a workaround for a change made in the NVIDIA OpenCL driver introduced in drivers starting with 375.57, as well as some improvements to error handling codes.

While a slight reduction in performance may be observed, this performance regression should be eliminated when NVIDIA removes the hotfix in forthcoming driver updates.

There is a known issue that this release will, for some projects, print sporadic messages to the log due to a known visualizer bug:

05:34:52:WARNING:FS01:Size of positions 64914 does not match topology 19

This issue does not affect the quality of the science, and a workaround is already in testing for v0.0.19, which we hope to release in a week.

Thank you all for your patience.

Kindly report issues here:

~ The FAH Core 21 crew

Well looks like F@H finally worked out all bug with the Nvidia driver with a updated core 21.

WARNING!!!!!!!!

The new 0.0.18 Core21 appears to break folding with older drivers. Well at least the 372.. for 1060/70/80 cards etc.
My other card has updated yet so I do not know if it is affected yet.

Updating to newer drivers was the only fix for me.
Win 7
1070

Anybody know how many bad returned work units stop you from getting quick return bonus?

I had QUITE a few of them.
Endless loop in the log file . Download.
Start.
Quit
Return as bad.
Download
repeat
repeat
Hopefully they will be forgiving?

I did notice an issue that when I was installing the F@H client, it would not create a slot for my 980ti. After thinking about it with the new core, I updated my driver and was able to create the slot.

Luckily no lost WU but it's weird that a freshly installed client would prevent me from running on my 980ti but it wouldn't stop folding with the new core on a existing client till the driver was updated.

As for why I have a fresh client, i've finally sat my butt down and started working on that guide. Needed some new screen shots as imageshack.us where I originally uploaded some of the photos no longer has them.

Still a work in progress but it's slowly getting done...
Status of the update so far:

  • ■ Links are being updated to the new F@H site (so I "Shouldn't" have to worry about dead links in the near future).
    ■ Added new image to the download guide.
    ■ New final image for the windows install guide.
    ■ Put the windows install guide in a spoiler to shorten the post (so if you're looking for linux installation, you wont have to scroll thru all the windows stuff to find it.)
    ■ Added the identity configuration to section 4 (It is now "4.1 Identity configuration") as this is prompted when you first install the client now (and somehow was missing in the guide originally)
    ■ In-progress of updating slots in section 4.2 (was originally 4.1)
    ■ Everything below Section 4.2 Slots is still original and waiting for the update treatment.

Although once all is said and done, Titillating (or maybe one of the mods if they have the power to edit a managers post) will have to update the "Table of Contents" on this thread to match the guide.

Speaking of the guide, it seams anort3 has a question on the guide thread of asking why it's never been stickied in that sub forum. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/34683-12-toms-hardware-folding-home-team-guide-testing#19236278

I've given my guesses but he may still want another mod to answer the question. MM? We may have to call upon you with your mighty powers!

That's the last i knew as well.

Oh btw EXT, I guess i'll need you to update the V7 client linux guide as well.... As I believe (as long as my memory isn't faulty) there was some images in your guide that is no longer there.

Actually I was wondering why it was buried in the Forum Feedback section. An odd place for a guide. :)

I haven't been following this thread ( or F@H in general ) though so it may have already come up. I know Titillating restructured the stickies not too long ago. Seems like you could do a master sticky like this:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/284315-28-buyer-guides-troubleshooting-folding-home

I have faith Mousemonkey is on top of things, He's been pushing the F@H team in the mod section for years.

Yeah, the forum migration happen and then it just became the red-headed step-child of that sub forum when the test sub forum was removed. :lol

Edit:
Finally found the post that was asking the question to MM if i could place the guide there.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1580785/folding-home-thgc-team-40051/page-108.html#10209285

Although I guess I never did remove the guide from there like i though i was. 😗

Thank you both, looks like it's time to upgrade my nvidia drivers, just in case
