So since they say that the 880 and 870 will still use 28 nm instead of 20 nm, will this mean that they will still use as much power as the 770 and not as efficient as the 750 Ti? Dang it! In that case, I'm holding out for a 20 nm 860 or 860 Ti, then.

750 Ti is on 28nm node as well. but the performance of 750 Ti is exceeding GTX650 Ti which is rated at 110w compared to 750 Ti which is rated at 60w. 880 might consume as much as 770 but the performance might as well exceeding 780 Ti.

It is said later this year like Christmas time-ish but the bigger question is what will the prices be ?

if GTX880 is really based on GM204 then the rumor about 880 being cheaper than 780 Ti while at the same time being faster than 780Ti might come true.

Well, no official statement has been made as to when exactly, with what we know it's expected late Q4 this year or Q1 next year, as for price, most likely similar to their 700 series counterparts on release.

My guess is that AMD will release a fully ulocked Hawaii chip and Nvidia will counter with an 880.

I wouldn't be surprised if the manufacturing process for both chips remain unchanged.

to be honest i want AMD to compete with nvidia maxwell in both performance and power consumption not playing the fastest gpu on the planet game with nvidia GK110. so can we expect R9 390X by the time nvidia come up with 880?

I'm not sure what the next AMD card will be called but I think they will release a fully enabled Hawaii to try to take the crown from the fully enabled GK110.

My guess is Nvidia will respond with the gtx 880.

I also think that gtx 880 will not be much faster than the 780 ti however quieter and more efficient.

I have a dilemma relating to the the 8xx series cards coming out:

I bought an EVGA GTX 780 6GB SC at the end of last month. I have 3 days left with which to return it and wait for the 880. Should I do it or just stick with the 780?

I'm running dual 1920x1200 displays right now and have thought about getting a third to try out the surround stuff. This card seems to have no trouble at all running anything right now on a single display maxed out at 60+ FPS, so it's more about wondering if it'd be worth sending it back and waiting for the 880 in terms of future games as well as the possibility of doing surround on 3 displays.

Thoughts?

the thing is we still got nothing official about 880. 6GB is plenty right now. instead of 880 maybe you should wait for 980? right now 880 is most likely based on GM204 which is direct successor to GK104 that used in 680 and 770. the big M (the successor of GK110 used in 780) might only come out as 980. so far that is the speculation.

what really matter is if TSMC can deliver on time. also it doesn't necessarily mean it will be bright news for gpu maker.

So, if the GPU setups are true and the GTX 880 will be the direct successor to the GTX 680, then could it mean that there will be a GTX 860 Ti which will succeed the GTX 660 Ti but with a lower TDP? Will the GTX 870 be the sweet spot for enthusiast gaming on a single 1080p display?

maybe we can assume that. GTX750Ti prove that they can offer more performance than GTX650 TI while at the same time consuming less power (110w vs 60w). maybe we can get 680/770 performance under 150w mark. on another note maybe nvidia was expecting TSMC problem in regards to their next process shrink so with maxwell nvidia is focusing to trim the power consumption down from architecture stand point and not relying only on die shrink. they did this with fermi to kepler but i think they put more effort on it with maxwell. if they not maybe they will face the same problem to what happen with AMD hawaii.

I am sure everyone in this thread knows that....Mobile always come first for the most part. Beta testing hehe

Pish Posh!! They keep changing it...2015...End of 2014....July 2014....GOD DANGIT! Well to be honest...780ti or 290X for now will do until they release 880ti or 390X's. I mean I am soon to be a 4K user and at least. 980ti or 490X until we can run 4K @ Stable FPS and maxed settings. Hmm, even 1440/1600p is a struggle with this gens high end cards.

I ended up keeping the 6GB 780 - I'll see how the 880 actually is when it comes out and I'll just sell the 780 if it's a ton better or something. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I am currently stuck with a terrible dilemma so I thought I'd share. My Asus Gtx 590 suddenly broke two weeks ago and it has no warranty left.. I don't know which road to take. I have the chance to get 2 780s for the price of a single 780Ti, but they are limited with 3GB VRAM. Newly released games eat up loads of VRAM.. I game on a 1080p 120Hz monitor and getting an average of 90-100 fps while maxed out is not that easy with a single card these days.. I sometimes use 3D Vision and that kills the frames. The Asus ROG Swift looks nice too, I'm planning to upgrade to that. So these are the reasons why I need 2 780s. The chance of VRAM not being enough and Gtx 880 speculations keeps me from buying them. I can't get 6GB 780s as they are really expensive in Europe. Damn.. what a sh*tty situation im in.. All the advices are welcome, thank you.

hmm if you're afraid to regret to get current crops of gpu when 880 actually arrives later maybe you can get place holder gpu until 880 comes out? but that's mean you're going to sacrifice your gaming experience for a few months. also there are talks that the true maxwell will have DX12 hardware support which will not exist in current gen hardware. while it is true all nvidia DX11 class gpu will be compatible with some DX12 spec but it is limited to software based one (like the cpu overhead reduction stuff). the new feature that require new hardware will exist in maxwell generation 2.

I think you should start your own thread rather than try and derail this one.

not too soon but the latest rumor are talking about Q4 release (they said in october or november time frame). but delayed to 2015 isn't out of possibilities either. the 2015 rumor was coming from if the chip was manufactured with TSMC 20nm. right now most suggest that second gen maxwell (800 series) will be based on current 28nm mature node. the third gen might as well skip 20nm and go straight for 16nm. also there are talks about nvidia redesign maxwell back to 28nm node because they can't afford to wait for TSMC to improve their 20nm and keep delaying maxwell further. but using 28nm doesn't guarantee things will go smooth either. i heard report that TSMC can't keep up with the demand from their 28nm customer.
