As CE3 is today I think most of us agree the engine is amazing and very capable. Its just needs someone to use it *cough* star citizen *cough*

Sweet genius. That is one impressive-looking game. And I LOVE ALL THESE NEW EYE-SCORCHING FTP GAMES!!! I still can't believe I haven't paid a dime in all my hours of Blacklight: Retribution, MaldoHD 4.0 outdoes the previous version to once again capture the title of world's-best-looking-game, Warface looks really good and is coming soon, Hawken looks amazing (despite Unreal 3) and is also coming soon, and now Star Citizen. Wow. It's a good time to be a PC gamer.

Star Citizen - Cryengine 3 - all rendered realtime - THIS IS PRE-ALPHA???

I agree that CryEngine3 is amazing....and it is far more capable than CE2. It's just waiting to be properly implemented, though.

I've been playing through parts of Crysis2 with MalDo 4, and it is uncanny how good this game looks. This is the pinnacle of graphic quality and I've never played another game that can touch this.

That said, I have absolutely no desire to play Crysis2 other than to look around.......and yet I've played through the original Crysis a half-dozen times and never grow tired of the gameplay. Crysis2 with this mod is an amazing environmental experience, but the game itself just doesn't grab me at all.

But the tech is there.......somebody please take this engine and give us a miracle!! Russia 2028 is my closest hope at this point.

Not related to Maldo's mod, but my favorite thing to do in Crysis 2 was always styling on enemies like it was a trickball street bball tournament and up next was the dunk contest. The power sliding, queueable power jumping and nice mantling ability in the game always gave me plenty of ways to leave aliens as speechless as everyone wishes Charles Barkley was.

C3 is gorgeous. Very nice textures, great-looking objects and post-processing, and of course the amazing lighting. Gameplay is right about the same as C2. Sorry Stringjam. No prone/lean for you...

Oops, looks like I broke the first rule of Fight Club. I mean the Crysis 3 Closed Alpha.

I may just wait for the inevitable HD mods before I get Crysis3. By then I'll probably get it on sale.........hopefully FarCry3 will hold me over until that happens. 😉

Haha, for real. There may not be a need for an HD mod - probably FOV and AA tweaks, and more granular settings like in MaldoHD 3.0 & 4.0. I told Maldo he'll probably only need to make a config file, because the optional HD textures for the most part look a lot like his. There's only the one swamp map, but I haven't found any graphical glitches yet.

I'm definitely waiting on a price-drop. No sense in paying $60+ for a game that will be $30 6 months or so after release.

Very intensive game, btw. DX11-only so far, and pretty much everyone is reporting constant drops to 15fps or lower on max settings... And even on Low, Task Manager shows a constant >90% on all 4 threads. From what other people have said, the game can max 6+ cores. Looks like this may be the game I upgrade my CPU for... Good thing Microcenter has the i5-3570K for $170.

Average framerate on max is just below 30fps at my res and ~975MB VRAM, and tessellation and POM aren't even applied yet. Other folks report 1.5-1.7GB of VRAM usage at 1080/1200p with HD textures on. I may be waiting for the GTX 760 to drop below $200 before I can enjoy C3 to its fullest...

I'm extremely glad to hear that! That's the Crytek I know and love......maybe they learned their lesson after the backlash they received releasing Crysis 2 with subpar graphic quality.

Sounds like this one may finally push my GTX570 off the board......it can barely swing MalDoHD.

That's what I was thinking all today after playing last night. I can rock High pretty consistently at 40fps or so, but everything on Very High (max) drops to a pretty consistent 20-25: CPU and GPU at >90%, in a 16-player match. I remember that Ultra in the BF3 beta was incredibly punishing/unoptimized.

*EDIT - Played a match this morning with one other person, and averaged 34fps on Very High. Looks like I'm CPU-limited with 14-15 other people on the map... Good omen for Single-player (what I'll spend 95% of the time playing.)

Wow. That's amazing.

The technology is there, no doubt.

Of course if they made a game like that today, only massive x2 690 quad-sli rigs could run it at full potential.

I've played sever of the custom maps that those screens were taken from, and believe it or not most of them run pretty well.

There are some of those that are not playable, though.....I remember the thread at CryDev on this one (this was CryEngine2):

It's recorded, way too intense for in-game....but can you imagine a fantasy RPG in that setting?

A lot of those screenshots are of old maps under CryEngine2 as well......which just goes to show you how capable that engine has always been. The CryEngine2 maps are definitely harder to run......they've really done a few things to make stuff run more smoothly in CryEngine3.

I wish I could check this out in-game.....it's actually pretty old, but the detail is just astounding. This is something I imagine would probably crawl under CryEngine2, but I'm not sure.

I have to say id really like to see what cryengine could do if paired with unreal engine...i mean the last unreal engine.

Or What we will see modders can do with that new engine...
After all, since crysis 1, few games have impressed me in terms of image quality.
2 bad i only have my laptop now, id like to run those mods for crysis today >D

Some outstanding graphic quality in that. Beautiful environment! That video shows why, though, I don't like the new nanosuit gameplay with it's bullet soaking "armor mode."

I've been replaying Crysis with the Tactical Expansion Mod (which I highly recommend, btw), which really ups the AI aggressiveness and implements severe hit damage on both sides (kind of like STALKER on hardest difficulty).

I've determined that this is the kind of FPS gameplay that I really love. Every encounter can be fatal, with enemy NPC's only needing to place a couple of good shots on you to take you down. Step out in front of an LMG? You're dead.

In these Crysis3 gameplay videos the player is taking hundreds of rounds and dozens of NPC's on and just running around getting pelted in "Armor Mode." I just don't see the fun in that, and it takes no skill or tactical thought.

I'm turning into the old guy that yells from his rocker on the front porch.......what I get shot, I want to die!!

Haha - I feel ya. The alpha was great because there's always the chance someone will headshot you, or plasma bomb you, or drop you with an air stomp, or sneak up behind and snap your neck, or shotgun you in the face, or (on the last day) hit you with the bow. <---all one-shot-kills. Btw, I don't know why, but stealth-mode kills leave me more satisfied with watching a kill-cam than when cursing at the stupid-good MW3 and BF3 players.

In SP, I've taken to playing all the Crysis games on the highest difficulty because the AI gets less noticeably-stupid and you can't take more than 3 bullets without armor mode (which is basically non-existent in the first two - in C2 I basically just use it for hasty retreats - it only lasts long enough to get behind some cover.) Plus, no reticule is my kinda thing (optional in C3!)

I might be in the minority on this, but that trailer pretty much sealed my disinterest in Crysis 3 from any kind of design standpoint. It's exactly like Crysis 2, except now sprinting doesn't cost suit energy so you can spend more time Call of Dutying and less time constructing a strategy based around the suit's limited resources. This game makes the suit look even more powerful than Crysis 2's suit which had distinct limitations, and even that suit was the cause of a LOT of complaints about overpoweredness. I'm sure there is something appealing in this trailer, but honestly I just feel like it must have passed me by.

It is exactly like Crysis 2. Except in much cooler and larger environments.

For real. That was my one beef with the alpha - I asked them to make sprinting drain energy again and make it slightly faster. And I wish Armor mode could take less hits - it will in the hardest difficulty, I'm sure. (Actually from the video it looks like they're playing on Easy difficulty - able to take way too many bullets in normal suit mode.)

The only graphical nitpick I have in this video is the return of cube-map reflections in the water. Looks terrible at 4:30.

Crysis 3, probably not gonna be interested.
Looks more and more like a CoD, and more and more console.
There even is a hp bar? And you get huge display in ceneter of screen saying Health Critical and Low ammo... Not interesting.

About the graphics, they do look good, but not really anything great. Seems like everything is nice, but dosent look very real. Hard to explain, id have to see it diffrently than a youtube video.

Just noticed light reflecting off the surface of the water onto the surrounding surfaces at 4:36. That looks awesome. Love all the shadows in that scene, too.

Oh, and the cloth physics i saw in the alpha are amazing, btw - and they react correctly when you shoot or throw things at them.
