Hello guys,

I come here to you today because I need your help to finish my high end pc build. The current state of the AMD vs INTEL fight made me unsure of what to do.

I made this build in order to:
  • play the latest games coming in for the next years in ultra 1440p with 60+fps
  • use resource vore applications such as VirtualBox, IDE's (Jetbrain - Intellij IDEA), Unreal Engine 4 development kit
  • stream on Twitch
In short I want to be able to develop a game (and play it) in the best conditions. It's not gonna be a 2d game, it will be a 3d game that could be compared to Arma III.

I am pretty confident with all the parts except the CPU, I'm hesitating between four of them (i9-10980XE / i9-10920X / Ryzen 9 3950X / Ryzen 9 3960X). My budget for the CPU would be around 1k and 500 for the motherboard. Do you have any other CPU in mind?

I would like to go Intel because I'm planning to overclock it (that's why I have a 1000w PSU). I'm not a big fan of moving on to Ryzen because it output more heat and is less overclockable.
In my understanding the i9-10920X seems more suited for my use case since it has enough core (12) and a 4,3ghz all core turbo in comparison to the i9-10980XE which has 3,8ghz.
If applications were correctly multi-threaded I would go without a question for the i9-10980XE but this is obviously not the case and many games & applications uses only 1 core like a Minecraft server Lol. So you want a high core frequency for those apps and games.

The 3950x is indeed a bit better with stock performance but I don't feel like it's a huge difference, but the price difference is big. I was probably wrong regarding Ryzen TDP :). But there is also another problem, is the 3950x (or i9 10980xe) really the sweat spot for my use case (gaming, game dev, maybe a bit of streaming)?
