Hi guys, areound three months ago i broke my phenom iix4 955 cpu so i decided to upgrade. I was thinking about ryzen but at the end i decided for an i3 8100 with a b360mobo and 8gb hyperX 3200mhz ram(yes i know the mobo supports up to 2666 mhz but the difference between the 2666 version and the 3200mhz version was less than 5 dollars. Next week im buying an rx 580 8gb and a samsung evo 860 500 gb ssd. I also have a cooler master silent pro 600w PSU. And a 60hz samsung 24inch monitor. I have been watching some online comparisons and now im worried if i made a bad mistake. Im using my pc mostly for gaming and i plan to keep it around for the next 4 to5 years. Sooo, did i make a bad decision buying the i3 8100?

It would be difficult to say with a straight face that any quad core/quad thread processor is recommended as a (primarily) gaming rig anymore, or, really, since the advent of the Ryzen 5-1600 about 28 months ago...; increasingly, even the 8400/9400 (6 core/6 thread) recommendations are under assault as many are reporting stuttering performance is some games (BF1 and BF5), possibly because of only 6 threads available.

As you already have the 8100/B360, use it.. The RX580 is quite capable still at 1080P, and, perhaps you will be satisfied at the games you play at your chosen resolution/quality, which is all that really matters.... Lord knows, it will be at least 3 times as fast as what you had...

(Your faster and likely more expensive 3200 MHz RAM option might have been wasted on B360 anyway)

Four to five years might be optimistic (for the gaming aspect), but, only you can make that decision when the time comes and you feel you NEED to upgrade...

I3 8100 is good but when it comes to cpu hunger games like bfv,bf1 expect some stutters and drops,i3 8100 will be enough for next 3 years maximum that’s my opinion who knows maybe more
