Hey Guys,

I am about to build myself a brand new gaming pc (super excited) just waiting for the Ampere launch and things should start to get in motion.

However, not sure what to do about my monitor. I am aiming to get a 3080 so am definitely looking at upgrading from my current 1080p 144hz 1ms monitor. However, am stuck between these 2 options.

1440p @165Hz & 1ms

OR

4K @60Hz & 4/5ms

The games I am looking to play include:
  • StarWars Squadrons (VR)
  • Doom Eternal
  • Assetto Corsa (VR)
  • Cyberpunk
  • Battlefield
  • Avengers
  • Fallen Order

For those that are going to say get a 4K@144hz or something, know that they are well out of my budget until prices for those monitors come down in the future.

Was hoping if anyone had any suggestions/opinions or has possibly experienced the difference between the two.

Cheers,

Vainsy

I used to be a "Anything over 100hz the human eye cant see" type of guy... then i got a 1440p 165hz Gigabyte G32QC and i have to admit it is mindblowing. I used to laugh at those guys who said they could never go back to 60hz, but I probably couldnt do it for gaming myself.

HOWEVER, unless you have a RTX 2080+ GPU, 1440p @ 165hz is pretty useless for single player games like @EridanusSV said. On most regular single player games i get around 67fps~75fps max on Ultra settings with a RTX 2070 Super.

1ms are for competitive games like CSGO and Valorant where objects need to show and be controlled as fast as possible in your screen.

With the games you listed, it'll be more fun to play in in 4K. Monitor ms doesn't matter as much or at all when it comes to single player games.
