Whew, took me a while to read this thread. This is a great idea PetevsDRM, hope some other people catch on and do it too. I already have a charity case for my used parts (my sister, her husband & kid, shitty town, unemployment, etc.). I've already sold them a 500W PSU and a Intel 945 mobo for $50, I'm going to give them my old 7800GTX this week (just got my 8800GTX). Now I just gotta get them a P4 & some DDR2-533.

i would be tempted to post, coz i have a 6600gt aswell, but i could prolly afford the upgrade unlike others,

Your a good Samaritan dude. i have been looking for a new video card for so long, i don't have the money to buy one. my specs are in my sig. i will post a picture of my rig later tonight, but don't laugh to much, it is my pride and joy. btw i live in Australia and i would be more then happy to pay for shipping :)
 
I'm a high school student (coming up on my HSC for those in australia). I have no job but over a year or so can manage a few hundred $$$. I bought an x1950 pro about 4 months ago for $300. I now regret it :lol:
 
Hello. My friend could REALLY use this card. As of right now, he is using a Compaq from the late 90's with Windows ME. I recently upgraded, so I already gave him my old mobo, ram, hd, and cpu, but my old gfx card died, so I don't have one to give to him. Yes, it has a PCI-e slot, and it doesn't even have onboard video, so he is still using the Compaq. With all the bills he has to pay, and the little money he has to do it with, he cant afford the other parts (case, gfx card, psu) for a good while. This would help him oh so much, plus, we can finally LAN. w00t. I will post pics of his rig 2morow if I get the chance.

The parts I gave him:
Athlon 64 3700+
ASRock 939 Dual SATAII mobo
1 GB Corsair XMS
120GB IDE hd

Well, I am VERY new here.....never registered until a couple days? ago when I realized that my mobo will not run my new RAM correctly, and I cannot figure out what to buy next.

As for my post here~ yes, I WANT A FREE VID CARD!
I have a 6600GT 128Mb, running with an E6300 on an Intel mobo that I will be replacing but the upgrades are all going SO very slow these days.

I used to work for Future Shop/Best Buy.....but the corporate giant did not like me or my family ways, my 18month old daughter has had allergies.....ones that took some time and plently of lost sleep to figure out!
Lost sleep=sleeping late=being late for work for a few minutes=Corporate BIGWIGS saying "FIRE THAT GUY, HES NO GOOD" or something like that....
all I know is, my daughter is FINALLY doing better, but I lost my job, was FIRED without severance for putting my family first, and now I have been unemployed for 2 months, just enough time to spend all savings/holiday pay/tax refund..... now I have nothing to upgrade with.....
my mobo wont run the RAM that I bought at the correct speed, so any $$ I have will go to that first, I have posted here asking for advice in the Motherboard forums.
I have no option left other than to keep my loyal but OLD 6600GT and play Halo 2, Halo, BF2142 and hope I dont die for lack of video support...........HELP ME PLEASE! I was going to build an awesome machine....with your card, I still might!
 
Oops, that was a typo. I forgot that I have 2gb now, but my corsair is actually 2 512mb sticks. sorry. ill post a pic of the parts i gave to him in the morning, erm, later this morning lol. I need to sleep its about 5 am here.
 
I need that video card! Right now I am running a p4 at 1.3ghz with 384mb of rdram. Thats right I said RDradm, have you seen the price on an upgrade for this stuff. Its insane, it is good ram though, you have to admit that. I also have 250gb eide hard drive that is tooo full, so I bought a 120 external usb drive to help take the load off. The short of it is I want to build new computer. If I win this video card it will be an excuse to buy an asus nforce 680i and a core 2 duo. plus other nifty items to fulfill my computer addiction/needs. My current comp crashes and/or freezes because of the lack of ram and microsofts wonderful use of system resources.

Oh yeah, I HATE DRM. Worst invention ever!!(comic book guy phrasing on that last sentence.)

<please excuse how neat the machine looks I just took the vacuum to blow ans suck all of the dust out and off of the machine. SHould probably hit it with compressed air to really clean it. it gets very dusty with three ferrets, a dog, two cats, two visiting/rescued cats, and the fact that we smoke in our house.

now that i'm back from school i've read the last 2 pages , i'm still confident in my chances , i could work for the money but , the reality is that i would have to work for more than 3 months to buy something aproaching the perf of that 7900gt ,but that is looked out of my options cause i have other things to do ,helping my dad and working around the house , did you know that here in romania for a whole day of hard work(ten hours ) you get 10$ and you find work only if your lucky , its a small town !!! oh and in one year i live from 1500$ ,so a 200$ video card is surely not on my list !!
 
I wish I could qualify but i got 2 machines 1 is a 500 celeron but its only a pci the other is a amd 1.4 but again just agp , took me a yr but got a ds3 and ram so far case was easy just a old reworked one with more holes for fans
at best i have a 40 gb hd but qudoes to you that was a great idea Pete

you know the situation from this part of the world ? , then you should ghues how much do you have to work to get something decent ,and the prices are higher here too , and thanks for your support on this i do hope to win this , i've invested my vacations , my money in my pc . i just love to play games , but untill now the best video i've had was a 9550 Ultra , with 128mb , not so good at all , now i practicl have nothing now , i can listen music but i only have some teac headphones that i got form my birthday last year,and surf the net , and once again thaks for the support ,and i've just calculated the price of the 7900gt , the 200$ is way off , its around 330$or higher, in our contry thats ~800 ron (1$=2.4ron) ! if you don't believe me , you can see i here http://www.pcfun.ro/Placi-video-NVidia/Placa-video-Gigabyte-NX79T256DP-RH?

Well, here is my sob story. I was upgrading my gaming rig one piece at a time about 8 or 9 months ago, but I was on a budget because I lived with my ex-girlfriend and her kid so I had to choose frugally. Anyways I upgraded my old athlon 64 3500+ s939 to an opteron 165 dual core at 1.8ghz, and overclocked it to 2.7ghz. Next month I upgraded the ram to 2 gigs of patriot 500mhz ddr. It was now about christmas season (it starts in late october where I work) and I was getting some overtime at work (i work at wal-mart) so I had a little extra money that I was planning on using to get a better graphics card and a better monitor. My ex-girlfriend had talked me into buying a couch when we first moved in together, and she owed 500 bucks on it cause I had paid for the first half and also had been paying for all the utilities and stuff on our house. Anyways since I had the money I made the mistake of mentioning it and she convinced me to give it to her to finish paying off the couch. Well, I'm a sucker and I gave her my computer upgrade money thinking that there was still going to be more overtime at wal-mart.

Anyways a little about me, I'm 24, newly single and broke, and my real name is Adam. I live in Spokane, Washington. I won't be able to afford a new graphics card until christmas season starts again and wal-mart gives out overtime. That's my situation, not the saddest story ever but maybe if i post a pic of my system you'll think it would be a worthy home for your card?

This case is proof that nice people, like the majority of posters on these forums, just get kicked in the teeth. Whilst it's all very well to think of others, I say it's time for a little balance. You deserved a new GPU for paying all the bills. In situations like this I hate the way that people who spend the majority of their lives at work just so other people can live comfortably get taken for granted. If you hadn't been working as much as you could then you would have been criticised for it and what do you get when you do as you think makes sense?

You deserve the card, partially because you were ripped-off in a legal fashion and all you can do is complain about it and other people will possibly think you are trivial for complaining just because you wanted to upgrade your computer. You deserve the card because, as far as I can tell, even after your ex shafted you out of plenty of cash, you were still supportive of her son, who as far as I can tell from the story, is not yours.

A small part of me wants retribution for you, for this woman to have some horrific couch-related accident, but then I realise this is geekish fantasy and also pointless as it won't make anyone feel better.

If you don't get the upgrade then may I suggest you become a bit more of a bastard? Consider recent experience - you have been treated poorly whilst being the nice guy. If people don't admire you so much because you have started to think about yourself more then so what? They're not going to pay your bills in order for your life to get any easier and enable you to have more cash to be selfless AND treat yourself.

My story is not that sad, but true.
I am currently running an Athlon 2800XP
It does not have a PCI-E slot.
It's on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard.
I know I need to upgrade my system board for the new card
I barely have enough to get a new computer.
But I have been saving some and will be able to atleast get a motherboard cpu and mem.
I currently have a 6600 AGP that I would give away also.


Trying to play COD 2 or Oblivion or even morrowind at any decent level is not fun.

I can get pictures tonight as I'm working helldesk now.

I honestly think this should exclude kids in high school. They still have the chance of getting a degree or something or choosing their first job if they are lucky.

Its the ones ive read about who have kids at 25 and ex-wives and really shitty lives that will go on forever...

So i think these people are more "deserving"


Exclusions:
Kids in High School.

Students in college or university -> come on people...1-2-3-4 years and your salary will be in a different bracket and you can climb the corporate ladder, besides you will probably sell the card to a friend and spend the money on drinks!

People with cards below the 6 series can in no way use a pci-express card. This would more than likely require them to upgrade mobo and cpu...if they were to buy a mobo and cpu firsthand or secondhand it would be the equivalent of buying an agp gfx card...so why not do that then.

People with a 7 series card should be disregarded from the selection process because they already have enough than most of the competitors in this thread.

So i reckon people with a 6 series pci-e card and people with those really bad stories who have kids (regardless of their system) should be selected.

P.S. my pc is where it is today from continuous saving and selling for about 7 years.
 
Hi, I'm in Peru, and my english is really bad, but not me :)

I have an AThlon XP 2400+, with a pcchips mobo, and the last year I got an FX5600ULTRA, really nice card, with this my 9 years child plays BIONICLE HEROES (borrowed from a friend) and enjoy it (of course me too), but after a month of playing I need to sell the card, and get back to my Geforce 256 (yes!!!! Geforce 256, this is before the Geforce 2 MX cards), so every time he ask me about if I will buy another card.... and every time I said "later".

Buyin an agp card is not difficult here in Peru, a decent AGP Geforce 6200 cost about $80 (the TurboCache are cheaper), an 6600 are difficult to find, and don't know the price. But AGP are passing away, so I decide not to buy an agp card, instead I buy an PCI Express mobo, an MSI K8NGM2 socket 939 with geforce 6100 integrated, to use my old memories and in my old case, but until now I can't buy the processor, will do when I get my payment later this month (oops 5 days left).

Your video card will really surpass my needs, and my child and me will really apreciate so much. I'm a frustate gamer too, my last really good game was Unreal Tournament, and plays Warcraft 3 too, so to me will be and giant leap in the gamer arena.

This is my first post, I read TomsHardware for about 4 years ago, just when the 9700PRO comes out, and the forum from a year ago (before I don't know the forumz exists). I know is easy to invent an history like mine to get your 7900 GT card, but will post pictures as soon as I get a digital camera; just read this post this morning and decide to signup an account and to reply.
