Question Laptop wont boot. .

Hi!
I was trying to help a friend reset the bios password on his Lenovo L460 thinkpad. So first i tried to remove the cmos battery, it didnt work. So i figured i had to reset the bios chip by shorting it out. and so i did.. but now the computer wont turn on.. the power button and the "fn" button lights up, and the fan starts running, but after a few seconds the fan stops. then after a while the power goes off. And the screen is completely black under the whole process. this happens every time i try to start it. Is it possible i damaged the chip and that's the reason it wont turn on now? could it be the entire motheboard? any input at all would be higlhy appreciated.

did you short it with the battery installed? sounds like you broke it :-(

Not the main battery, but yeah the cmos battery was in:/ you dont think its the entire mainboard?? if not could it be fixed with just a new bios chip?
