[SOLVED] SSD slows to a crawl. What is happening?

Bought a Corsair MP400 1TB today to store more games but the write speeds are abysmal. Never had this with any other NVMe drive. Advertised read and writes are in the 3000-4000mb/s range yet it's writing to the SSD at a poultry 16mb/s. What is happening?

Install HWINFO 64 or similar app to see your SSD temps. Mine sometimes reaches 90C !!!! And like yours, mine slows to micro SD speeds, or stops altogether. If not overheating, then you might need to format to different file system type, and it also matters how you installed this drive. Did you image the drive?

Possibly caused by Windows 11. Google "Windows 11 slow SSD" and you'll be bombarded with articles and other forum posts.

Check your previously installed Windows Updates for KB5007262, which should be the fix. If it's not installed, get it here (Get the first one): https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5007262

Doesn't work for me. On Win11. It says this update is not applicable to your computer.

that's internally installed via M.2 slot right? Asking because my Orico NVMe USB3.1Gen2 external behaves very similarly when used with certain drives.

The drive uses slower QLC nand chips.
At some point, continuous writes fill the available free blocks and management reverts to a read/rewrite operation on those slower blocks.
You can see this if you look at the anandtech ssd bench and compare with the 1tb Samsung 980 PRO:

I would not worry much about this.
Most of your work in going to be reading small random blocks.

I think OP's 16MB/s is too slow even for direct QLC writes.

Corsair Flash Voyager GTX. A high performance USB drive. It always writes to my other SSDs at 300 to 400 mb/s no issues. This MP400 just slows to a trickle. Thinking about returning it.

Thanks for the help everyone. I just decided to return it. I couldn't work anything out. He told me that it is to be expected for that drive.
