Hi.
I’m looking to build my next computer for gaming. So far, after some research, I have come up with the following and would like to know what the experts can tell me.
this is my build for the most important components:

1. CPU:
Intel i5 10500 or intel i5 10600 or intel i5 10600k
2. Motherboard:
I prefer to go with micro atx, but atx is also just as good.
  • gigabyte z490 m
  • gigabyte z490 ud
  • gigabyte z490 gaming x
  • gigabyte Z490 gaming plus
My preference goes to gigabyte, because over the years I’ve been very happy with my other builds and their motherboards.
additionally, my preference goes to a motherboard with wifi. Or should I get a separate wifi card?
3. RAM:
2x16 G skills Ripjaws v f4-3600c16d-32gvkc

Thank you.

For pure gaming a 10600k is definitely the price/performance king, but, with the GPU's you intend to use, I don't think you are going to see any meaningful difference, vs say an R5 3600. If going with the R5 3600 will free up budget, for a better GPU, you will want to go that route, also. You are going to get better gaming performance, with an R5 3600, and a faster GPU, than you would with a 10600k, and a slower one. Looking at pricing, for your area, with PCPP, the R5 3600, vs 10600k, is enough that you could step up to a 2070s, vs a 2060s.

I wud suggest u to go for 10600k as u r getting a z490 motherboard... If the motherboard choices are from the above listed ones, then i wud advice u to go for gigabyte z490 Gaming plus or gaming x... they have m.2 thermal guard.... the motherboard in terms of features or spec is more or less the same... so get the one which is cheaper... if u r looking at other brands, i wud advice u to look for msi z490 boards or asus tuf z490 board...
3. RAM:

Its a good choice...

Thanks. Because of my trust of the gigabyte motherboard, I think I’ll stick with it. My build from 2014 is still alive and kicking it, though not up for demanding games.

Can you run i5-10600k with 3600 or 2666?

For pure gaming performance the 10600k is fantastic for the price but if you want to do anything else I would recommend the 3700x because it has 2 more cores and 4 more threads for the same price, and it includes a very capable cooler unlike the 10600k in which you would probably need to buy an aftermarket cooler to maximize performance. If you don't go with the 10600k I would just say don't go with intel because the 10500 and 10600 non k just won't give you significantly better performance than the absolute incredible value chip in the ryzen 5 3600 that is at 160 dollars right now. If you are going for the 10600k I would recommend the MSI Z490 Tomahawk because it is a fantastic motherboard for the price. Other than that I would recommend the MSI MPG Z490 gaming edge wifi if you have the budget. Unless you really have your heart set on a gigabyte motherboard I wouldn't reccomend them for Z490 because from the ones I have seen there are just better options for the same price or slightly more expensive.

I love the way posters can make builds and spend the OP money.
Dreaming, I guess.

What is the budget?
What is the intended graphics card?
As a general rule of thumb, budget about 2x the cost of the processor.
A $125 i3-10100 is a really quick processor and would match with something like a GTX1660 class card.

If the budget is more robust, then, by all means a $350(?) I5-10600K would be appropriate for a $700 graphics card like a
RTX2070/2080 super class card.
You get the idea.

As to MATX, that is as large as I go.
I have a need for a small case and MATX works very well.
The main difference is that you only get 4 expansion slots, but past one for the graphics card, how many do you actually need.

Thank you for your comments. I should have given some more info.
I live in the Netherlands. My budget is maximum €1400 (U$1600). The graphics card that I have in mind is GRX2060 (super?) or maybe RTX 2070. But the reason I didn’t mention it here was that I wanted the Mobo and CPU to match each other first. Based on that choice, I well cost my GPU.

Could you please tell me what you mean by MATX? .... i prefer a small but powerful build, but if that can’t, then a mini tower type of thing.

I looked at both Mobos you recommended. I didn’t see bus clocks of 3600 for either. Or have I not looked cautiously enough?

MATX is micro atx motherboard format.
That is what I use because I needed a case with limited depth.
Silverstone TJ-08E is a wonderful case with good cooling.

Once you pick your cpu, only then can you pick your motherboard.
The chipsets need to be compatible with the processor.

With your budget, I might think that a i5-10600K would fit your budget and match well with a RTX2070 class card.
I would recommend a Z490 based motherboard which will allow you to overclock the 10600K for added performance.
I do not need an upgrade, but that doesn't mean that I can not look.
I like the Asus ROG Strix Z490-G gaming M-ATX motherboard.

Hi. This is super. Many thanks. I didn’t know about this website! I like also your AMD picks, but does the AMD CPU require a separate cooler? I thought AMD ships the coolers standard and that they are pretty good. What’s your opinion?
